Interview with Matt Mochary, Director of Favela Rising
AcheiUSA, a Brazilian publication, has a recent interview with Matt Mochary, Director/Producer of Favela Rising. In the interview, Matt discusses the reasons he and Jeff Zimbalist made the film, his impressions of the favelas, Rio, and AfroReggae, as well as the topics of non-violence and ending crime in Brazil.
We both wanted to tell the story of a community that worked, of a community and of individuals that were succeeding in spite of extreme obstacles. When I met Anderson in Brazil in March of 2003 at a conference sponsored by the Hewlett Foundation, I knew that his was the story we had to tell.
